"The Human Rights Council is the main intergovernmental body within the United Nations responsible for human rights. Established in 2006 by the General Assembly, it is responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe. It serves as an international forum for dialogue on human rights issues with UN officials and mandated experts, states, civil society, and other participants; adopting resolutions that reflect the decisions of the international community and imploring governments to take action."
